Grading With Cards
Card grades are based off of many different aspects of condition. Major aspects include, the cut of the card (something you can’t control), and overall condition of the card (scratch marks, bends, corner point, and many more). Cards are graded on a 1-10 scale with 1 being fairly poor and 10 being gem MINT. Some of the most reliable grading companies include:
- PSA (Professional Sports Authenticator),
- BGS (Beckett Grading Services)
- SGC (Sportscard Guarantee Corporation)
- CGC (Certified Guaranty Company)
Beckett’s company is unique because they have a grading even greater than a normal gem MINT 10. Beckett uses a black label signifying the absolute perfection in a card. These labels are the rarest you can obtain in a normal grading which is why the prices of cards which obtain the black label can mean a difference between $800 on a regular grade 10 and $1800.
